SpaceX President & COO Gwynne Shotwell to receive 2023 National Space Trophy
The Rotary National Award for Space Achievement (RNASA) Foundation has selected Gwynne Shotwell, President and COO of SpaceX, to receive the 2023 National Space Trophy.
The award recognizes an outstanding American who has made major contributions to our nation’s space program. In addition to the National Space Trophy, the recipient is honored with a professional portrait (displayed afterwards at Space Center Houston) and an Omega watch.
A celebration banquet honoring Shotwell will be held in Houston on April 28, 2023.
Matthew Desch, CEO of Iridium Communications Inc. said, “She’s got the technical savvy, and that underpins her being a great salesperson. But she never tries to oversell, and she’s always open and honest.” in a 2020 Bloomberg article.
Shotwell wears many hats
Shotwell joined SpaceX as its first VP of Business Development in 2002. She is one of the original twelve employees, responsible for selling launch services to government and commercial customers while SpaceX developed its rocket program. She leads over 12,000 employees and is responsible for day-to-day operations, including sales, production, finance, mission management and leader of customer strategy to support growing the company.
SpaceX is value at over $137 billion, self-reported as of its latest raise.
